So far in practice I'm liking the logistics of using the clubs own mixer. Lot less hassle I think. I'll have to take a look again at the 2D to see how portable it is. At the moment I can just get my laptop, BRC2000, soundcard and headphones into a standard laptop bag (Ableton Live one).

Then its just a matter of setting up the 2 outs to the club mixers free inputs and a couple of power cables. For smaller gigs lugging the 3D doesn't seem that practical as where will it go. To try and clear an area each time for that looks like a headache.

Yeah, I considered that before I bought it. I've seen a couple of guys do a few live sets here in Amsterdam and everyone brought their own mixer. I have to say that the trick is to get a crate on wheels to lug all that stuff, much like a record crate. The club staff was always very kind and willing to assist in setting up the gear for the guys that do the Live sets, so that was never an issue.

I'm also looking into a new cutting edge programmable controller that is fully customizable. More on that when and if I get it.

But to your other point, I think two or three outputs are plenty. I'm keeping the 3D for now.

well it shipped yesterday so as soon as i get it and run it thru the ringer i'll let you know how it is. Plus lugging the 3D and laptop around wouldn't be an issue for me so much as i play out ALOT less then you guys do, i'm sure.

hey fellas,
thanks for the back and forth on this one. I'm also trying to decide which way to go here. I used to gig out a lot with CD's and Vinyl, and have since taken a break and been in the studio a lot. I'm now looking to head out fishing for more gigs again, but would like to develop an ableton/traktor set so I can show off a little more than just the standard CD set.

I like the idea of the 3d/4d in that you could keep it as a center console for your studio at home and program tracks using it and ableton. You could master this thing the way that hip hop guys master using an MPC for a live performance.

However, I know all too well how limited space can be in many a DJ booth, so the feasability of actually setting this thing up at gigs is a problem.

So how about the 2D? Is it limiting only having one of the 'sidecars' of the 3d? could you potentially use a 2d and a 1d if you need to expand?

Can you mix in ableton then audio through the 2d?

I currently sold my dj mixer and have no dj mixer at home for practice. Wondering how feasible it is to use just the 2d and go straight into computer or speakers to practice.

Thoughts? feelings?

I'll get it set up this week and let you know. i've been setting up a bunch of other studio gear as well as trying to get some rmx'ing done since i got it.
looks like you could walk into any booth setting that either had a channel on the mixer free or had S/PDIF hook ups and run with it. it has it's own soundcard built in as well.
also it works as a control, just have to play with that one and see how it set ups and any limitations.

Yeah it looks pretty impressive for a stationary set up!
I apologize for not getting anything posted on the 2D. i still haven't had any time to set it up and play with it.
as soon as i do, i'll post something though.

Mate...Sasha and Hawtin have roadies for that shit. They only kit they are lugging is the CHARLIE:eek:

The XONE mixers have really blown my mind...i cannot keep up with how fast these things are progressing. Hawtin's demo from the M-NUS podcast isn't all that impressive. I also caught JXL and another vid from that Deadmau5 guy jamming on on YouTube which were better
