Latency

With my massive project template in Logic I have brutal latency playing any sort of soft synth/sampler with my usb keyboard. Even with the buffer down to 128 the latency was unaffected.

I opened a blank project and created one instrument track and the latency was no longer an issue.

So obviously the latency has something to do with my extensive template.

- Where is the balance between having a rad template and a manageable level of latency that you can play parts in comfortably?
- Is there anyway to have a super rad template and not have latency?


I can acknowledge that one possible soultion is to render the project play parts over top in a new session and then import those parts back into the main session. However, that seems like a bit of a run around.

This is pretty much a blank slate type of topic for me, so any help/explanations are appreciated.

Just look at some of the plugins that might be causing this. Anything Linear Phase usually will have more latency for a start. It should only be plugs on the master buss that cause this.

Thanks...this worked..i can take a midi channel, out it to 1-2, turn off the master processing and I'm good to play with no latency.

NuEra, not too sure if you have tried this out as yet but a faster way to avoid stopping midway thru your projects when ideas are sparkling off is to enable the latency icon on your transport panel below. What it does is that it will disable all the heavy plugs like Space designer/Adaptive limiter etc.

Linear phase is a type of eq that inherently uses more latency. Not sure which of the Logic ones use it but you should be able to see on the gui if it mentions it.
