..was wondering if MedwayStudio was still employing the Furman Spring Reverb these days? BTW...Thanks for the tip of the cotton spring damping Jesse, that's been a staple in my mixes since you got me hip to it back in like '02
Has the whole kit from the FLA spot been sold off for the move to EU? what about the RE201 Space Echo

The Furman went with pretty much everything else, including the Otari MX70...I came here with about 4 boxes and 2 suitcases..

Sure.. the particular spring verb I had, and some others are like this..used 3 long springs inside the case to generate the verb. The reason for 3 was to try and diffuse the metalicness of the sound to make it smoother. Problem was I didn't want smooth I wanted the King Tubby cheapo sounding verb. So the trick was to open up the unit and push some toilet paper between two of the springs to dampen them. This meant only one spring was actually in service and the resulting sound was more metallic and cheap, but to me good sounding ;-)

Thanks for sharing.
I've always thought about going to hardware in some cases. Then I'll read something about how software is just as good and you shouldn't waste your space/cash, etc...etc... Not sure I buy into that though. I'm still looking for a good reverb for vocals. Everything I've used so far just doesn't seem so 'clean'. Although, I may not be using them correctly.....

In most cases it is, there are exceptions and at the end of the day you have to wonder if anyone will notice. But for your own enjoyment it can be nice to have a few hardware pieces. There are some decent spring verb impulses for convo verbs that sound pretty close, especially in a mix.
Maybe try eqing the verb return to clean it up. Which ones are you using?

DIY spring reverb. Might try it if I find myself with some free time.

For general stuff, I just use FL Studio's 'Fruity Reverb 2'. For really long and dark stuff I'll use Audio Damage's 'Reverence'. They've got one nice preset in there and a couple others I use. And a few random plugins from time to time, but nothing really constant other than those two.
