Medway Wrote:Main consideration would be a soundcard that has drivers which are solid and perform well with the DAW you are using. Sound quality difference is minor at best within the medium range of converters available today.

Medway, regarding what you said, what would one be looking for pre-purchase? Any particular numbers or whatnot to be looking for?

For performance I'd usually check to see if other users are having success with a particular soundcard and the DAW you're thinking of using. For instance in my case although I love my Scope card I had probs with both Cubase and Live which can be pretty annoying. The drivers have been sorted for Cubase but doesn't seem like Live has yet, need to do some tests though to track it down.

Numbers wise I guess you could look at the SNR to see how many bits you're actually taking advantage of, if it offers 24bit output but only 100db SNR then that's effectively only 17bit or so dynamic range. One of the main differentiators in converters is their anti alias filter and I don't know if this is something you could see as a spec.

actually i mentioned it in one post some time ago ,when i was looking for fairchild Wink Cool

and the prices are really good ,and i love their quality.IMO those are some of those "a must have" whensomeone has some spare money,or is looking for a new plugins.I totally love the way they sounds .

Thats why i do not consider UAD anymore as a "must" ,and asked for advice . Smile

And if someone is interested,i recommend to demo those plugins, you will fall in love

They also model distortions when overdriving the inputs (output it seems as well) which the UAD does not. So for me they are more useful. Used the Fairchild on a master yesterday and really smoothed out the sound nicely, might have to pick this one up soon, for 79 euros is a good price.

yeah man, just load a massive drum loop with a fairchild on master,it is blasting me totally...I love how it sounds.Thats why i was searching so long for this gem Smile 79 euros means one good party in clubs in my country,so i guess it ws better investment for me Smile

BTW Medway what settings with fairchild u use on a master?

I was just getting about 1-2db gain reduction while driving the input hard. Today have also been experimenting with the lat/vert modes
