A good AU filter?
#1
For the last year or more I have been on a search for a nice sounding filter that I can use as an AU with Logic. I need more than just the regular low pass or hi pass, I'm looking for something that has a nice reso and can be used on a main lead. Take for example, 1 of my 2 favorite tunes of all time, Spider and Legaz - Pysch. http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF255863-01-01-01.mp3

The closest I've come to finding what I'm looking for is the Bombfactory Moog filters, but being bomb factory they are only for Protools.

I've also considered just using the filters on my Xone62 and recording it back in as audio. However, as I am working all in the box I would prefer a plugin.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Fabfilter's Volcano is really good and very full featured:

If I think of some more I'll post.

Excellent, thanks! I'll download the trail this weekend and give it a go.

Definitely if you think of anymore, please post.

Cheers!

I've downloaded the trail and I am liking it so far. Will probably purchase it once I get to try it out some more.

One to watch out for is that it will saturate a bit. This can be cool when you want it but just be careful when running major parts of a track through it. For instance a few times I've run the whole track through this and had to kee an eye on the input so that it didn't get fuzzy.

Have to say my most used 'filter' is the hi and low passes on the lowly Waves Q1. Nothing fancy but gets the job done easily.

Volcano is great though when you link the two filters, can find some nice sweet spots.

It's tough to match the way the allen & heath filter sounds. I sold my xone 92 and miss the sound of their filters with the Q all the way up.

I've been using the Camelaudio Camelphat to get a good resonant filter sound. It's a great plug-in if you haven't tried it yet.

I have the camel space, and am not too fond of it's filters. Are the filters on the CamelPhat similar?

Here's another for you I just remembered:

Dr. Device by Audio Damage. Really rich sounding, probably has one of the lushes resonances I've heard in a filter.
