I am mastering my sounds and using PAZ Analyzer to help get an overview of my sample. I am unsure how to fix the sounds that go out of the stereo field range for left and right channels, sounds that pass into the red AntiPhase area.. is there a plug in for this to remove them or is it more technique with EQ'in or something?
and btw talking about phasing...can anyone explain bit more how it affects final sound and mix? i have never done anything on purpose to avoid phasing,actually i do not know what it is,i think something with stereo /mono problems,but nothing more ....
Hi Edgar, there are a couple of options you can try to solve this.
1.Way is to phase invert the channel if you are working with just a stereo track and dont have access to the individual parts thats causing the problem.
2.Try a utility like mono maker or something similar that is able to reduce the stereo field of the instrument thats causing the problem.
Basically, out of phase means the left and right channel are cancelling each other out which makes it less mono compatible. Its not gonna sound good on mono systems eg radio/club system and tend to sound weird due to its out of phase character.
From my own experiences, i find that its usually the lower register frequency that are more prone to going out of phase if you are not careful. I had a mix in the past that has a slight phase issue. Was at Jesse Studio and he showed me how to solve and minimize phase issue so i think he's probably the best person to explain in detail on this.
Also be careful with stereo wideners as some of them change the phase of a signal to create the effect.
Essentially though if you took a totally out of phase sound and played it on a mono system it would dissapear. So in some cases when people have a bit widener effect on a main sound it could go away when played on certain systems.
I've made a little diagram to show what happens. When two identical signals in phase are added together you end up with just a louder signal. If they are completely out of phase then you end up with silence. Anything in between and certain frequencies will be lost or added depending on the relationship between the waves.
