not raging on mac's at all. i've just watched them crash and have as many issues as pc's do (especially when dealing with video editing). so it's nice to see a post where it's not the typical "...blah, blah, blah, should've bought a mac, blah, blah, blah....".Wink

True, same here. I know Rami has it all setup and running fine, but trying to mirror what I have in the DAW has been quite the task.

Rami, my Virtual PC crashes all the time, tried downloading the update from Microsoft but it said it's not for my computer. I don't want to run parallels, I just want to open the odd executable from Windows here and there. Any ideas?

Sven,

sorry it took a while to reply, i havent been checking the forum much recently but im back.

Virtual PC from my exprience on a G4 laptop was terrible and kept crashing, it doesnt come close to utilizing the full potential of the macs CPU. I havent tried parallels but i understand from other users it is the way to go if you want to run windows and PC apps on your mac. Though I have never used it.

As for the setup I am running, i do exprience hiccups every now and then on my mac, its just getting used to what my system does and doesnt like to do, as well as what combination of programs i can run alongside each other.

Macs are just like every other computer they crash, and sometimes they crash hard, mine was in repairs for a good 2 mths some while back.

Hope things are working smoother for you now, and sorry for the delayed reply, plus if you do have the map to the fountain of youth on your mac please feel free to email it to me.

sven hauck Wrote:Why does OSX want to put files in places that I don't know about? Try tracking that down and it may take you a few hours. Sometimes I want to remove a plugin, so I need to manually remove the VST and the Standalone. Some stuff is in Applications, some in the VST folder, some in the Library...

I found the same thing at first until I realized apple's search function actually works.

Also why did you buy an Apple laptop if you are so happy working on a pc?

For the record, I don't think one is necessarily better than the other. Just like a DAW, whatever the individual works best with is best. In the end, they are all just tools to make some funky noises with.

Well, the saga continues. I have stabilized some of the apps, by removing some plugs. But for some projects Live crashes on first load once, then twice, then reopens ok. I think this a plug issue.

My Novation Remote SL25 now works thanks to a software update.

On the general apps front, Jabber is having issues connecting to the Gtalk client, and Windows Live Messenger for Mac has been dropping a few chats (which later show up when I log into the Windows machine). I don't think the Mac likes to run a Microsoft chat client, if you ask me.

As far as the OS is concerned, it is without question far superior due to the Unix kernel. Rebooting is a snap. OS never crashed on me.

One more thing, the download speed on my Thinkpad is much quicker than on the Mac, which surprised me.

Rami, no worries, I've been offline myself for various reasons. Thanks though.

NuEra, I bought the Mac to test it out and because I was leaving the US to move here and it cost me way less. Plus I needed a second/portable studio, if you will, and my primary decision was the OS stability, which turned out to be true.

And for the record, the thread was just a rant, not a PC vs. Mac debate. I also figured it would also be interesting to try to replicate a studio setup from PC to Mac.
