Change your PAYPAL password & security questions
#1
I just got ripped off. Not much luckily. I had some unauthorized payments on my paypal account to Zynga.com (the makers of that stupid farming game) for "farm bucks". I did some searching and it appears I'm not the only one.

I'm posting this up here cuz I generally only use my paypal account for buying music software, sample packs, etc. So if they got it, it's likely from that. I figure that could put some of you in the same boat. So change those passwords and security questions.

Not saying that it was because of this, but my last authorized paypal charge was to sonicacademy.com (which has some pretty decent and cheap production tutorials). So who knows....maybe from there.

Just wanna give everyone heads up.

I had this happen years ago for about $800 for some porn ads. Turns out it was a phishing thing from Hotmail as I had the same password.

But I agree, the Paypal one should be different to any other account you have.

It's also possible they got a keylogger on your system to check for any spyware.

Which ones did you get at Sonic Academy? I checked them out for my upcoming tutorial I'm doing for Ableton but theirs seemed very basic.

I picked up the Funky House Bassline, and the Minimal Tech House. I was a bit disappointed with the Funky House Bassline. I thought it would get into how to sculpt the sound of the bassline out of a synth or something. But it was more like how to choose the right notes based on any chords or other musical items in your arrangement. Also the plugins they use aren't exactly the kind that everyday producers can legally get a hold of. On a good note, there's another module you can purchase with it, "Autotune Harmonizing & Vocal FX". That one's pretty handy.

Minimal Tech House on the other hand was pretty good. It got more into the synth part of things. Used Sylenth too, so that was nice.

They're kind of basic, yes, but for the price I think it's reasonable. I guess in tutorials it's not easy, cuz everyone uses different gear. So maybe impossible to get deep into things and please everyone. Like, if they got deep into the Live portion of the tutorial, I think I wouldn't have bought the second one.

Ok, now here's a WEIRD turn of events on the Paypal thing. Both my credit card and bank (that I have listed on my account) both say they haven't seen these charges....even though they've already been paid. I know my CC company is pretty up to the minute on these things. They've called me minutes after trying to make a purchase online to confirm it's really me. And my bank told me they wouldn't give the money if there wasn't any cash in my account (I only had $3). But yet.....the money was paid.

So now paypal has credited my account with the balance in dispute; money I apparently never actually paid. As good as this may sound....well, it kind of gives me an uneasy feeling. Ya know? I'm probably thinking too much, but maybe some hybrid scam in the works?

Strange....

MEDWAY maybe you should think if it is possible to organise payments via PAYSAFECARDS if thats possible . I use it often in diffrent occasions and it is extremely safe (prepaid card with a pin code ) and comfortable

Where did the money come out of? When mine was frauded it took it out of my bank account through my Paypal. So then Paypal credited me and I sent the money back into my bank account.

One thing I do find annoying with Paypal is their eCheck system. I have a couple of subscriptions I'm on. I have most of my funds in pounds but these subscriptions take out of your USD balance.

2 times right in a row I had these subs come up and didn't have USD funds to cover so it tried taking from my old US bank account which I don't use and therefore doesn't have funds either. It tries 3 times to withdraw so each one is a $35 fee, on top of that now BOA seems to charge an extra one time $35 fee if you don't sort your balance back to positive.

So due to these two subs I've now had about $300 in fees to my old bank account Big Grin

Ultimately my fault but the problem is you can't cancel the eCheck thing once it gets going so you're in for a little ride.

Hmm ok will check into that maybe, never heard of it though.

PayPal does accept credit cards but then again I've found that some of my international customers have issues with this even.

For some guys in South America we've had to resort to just using Western Union.
