is there a way to highlight multiple channels and set the volumn at, say -15, all at once vs. going into each channel, or writting automation?

Sure, go to the mixer, shift click the channels you want and then I believe it's control-g to link them. C4 took away this key command for some reason so I can't check right at the moment. Just to be safe you can right click in the fader area and then a pop up menu will appear. Here you can see the link channel function. At that point you can lower them to -15, then unlink them (control-u I think) to get back single control.
