Limiter vs Inflator?

Seems like it would help for Intersample peaks.

Just got that one as well. I think maybe Paul Frindle from Sonnox (and who also designed the SSL consoles from years ago) has helped inform a lot of people on this subject so I'd assume some other companies will be following suit now.

Problem with the intersample detector is it's fairly cpu intensive.

You can actually create a make shift one on your own though, a simple Lowpass set to even 20k will act similar to the conversion in a DA and show you these peaks withing your digital meters.

So i'm still working out what to buy in terms of audio processing plugins..
I have read so many differing opinions (waves sucks.. waves are great, sonnox sux.. sonnox are great..!) so i'm relying on this board for the best opinion! (I realise that most of it comes down the user not the plugins, but it won't hurt to start out with something descent)

I'm looking at getting away without a dsp card.
I like the sonnox eq & dynamics. In terms of limiters - can i get away with the sonnox limiter? or are there better limiters out there?

Also could I use the sonnox dynamics on the output channel or should i get something with more 'character'?

If someone says Sonnox sucks they need to get their ears checked. Now there are cases where other plugs might be better in certain cases, but you'll be very hard pressed to find something with that overall quality.

There isn't a more flexible or better sounding limiter than the Sonnox one as well. It's one of the few limiters that can not only make things louder but actually 'better', which is generally not the case with limiting.

Waves does have soem good stuff. but they make a lot of plugs so it really depends on which ones you are talking about. None of them 'suck' though.

I think most of these comments are from people who talk more than they know.

As far as the Sonnox dynamics on the output. It's good for that, and in one test I heard was even picked out above the EL Fatso Jr hardware piece. That being said I don't use it for that purpose but it would be fine for the job.

Just get yourself the bundle and be done with it. If you can't make killer sounding mixes with the sonnox eq/dyn/lim etc.. then somethings wrong with your technique.

Later on you can maybe look at some more 'character' plugs but really you won't need much. I'd happily make mixdowns on Sonnox stuff all day long.

If you really want some color though check out the Waves API, been testing that out and it's very nice. It compliments the Sonnox stuff very well.

heres another intersample peak meter, its windows so I couldnt try it out, but from what I understand it is very CPU friendly and free.

Thier other Plug ins look really nice too.

The Stillwell stuff is great, some different plugs than what you find normally, I use them quite a lot now.

Ya its a shame I cant run them on a mac.

Just downlaoded the Izotope RX demo, not the advnced one the regular one, and it works great Ive been cleaning up records all morning applying the noise removal twice sometimes, to my ears it does a good job with absolutly no compromise to the rest of the frequency content of the file.

Try it out, its got a couple of more features which I havent messed with yet
