It's been a while. It looks as if you've got some neat ideas brewing there

this forum is top notch and always has great topics going. i think the sharing sounds w/ rating is a fantastic idea

Shout box is a cool idea as well but twitter is for the birds

Thanks for the feedback. Hows productions coming along? I got a few new things to send over if you want to take a listen.

Been meaning to add some input on this.

As far as the actual layout, maybe just keeping it a 'work in progress' would be a good idea. See how things work/don't work and go from there.

With content, one thing I find about other websites that urks me a bit is the route they take to demonstrate how to do something. For example, say there's a killer tutorial on how to use a particular plugin. Rather then make a very general tutorial, they make it specific to a particular platform (like, "How to Create a Killer Bassline using Vangard in Reason). Ok, well...that screws me and a bunch of others who don't use Reason.

What I'm basically saying is it would be great to keep things as general as possible, so everyone can benefit. Yes, you have to use a specific DAW to demonstrate, but maybe don't get into the specifics unless absolutely necessary. (like, "How to Sidechain in Cubase"....yes, you have to get specific. But "How to Sidechain using ABC Plugin", actually you don't.)

An ideal solution would be to demo on each the different DAWS, but of course this wouldn't be so easy; and would be super time consuming. So maybe you could try and find others that could make a demo in a different DAW.

Not sure if that's clear enough. I find a lot of tuts that I'm interested in are very DAW specific, so I can't really use.

*on a side note*

Maybe make a survey in the user control panel that asks which DAWS they use. Have a list to choose from. Like:

Used the most: FL Studio
2nd most: Cubase
3rd most: Adobe Audition

That would help you get an idea of what everyone's using so you can make tuts with that in mind.

Hope that's helpful

I think some tutorials should be showed on most "regular looking" daws, like cubase, sonar, reaper, logic ,with traditional layout. Thanks to it it can be more easy to understand, because this ableton hype doesnt mean at all taht everyone uses ableton now Smile

And among those regular traditional daws everything seems to look more or less the same

Good feedback. I think I would group the tutorials into 2 categories. One would be very specific like the Ableton ones. These would be DAW/Plugin tutorials. And then the rest like making basslines, drums, sounds etc.. would be more general. I would either show how to do in different DAWs or I would mention any differences in how other DAWs would work compared to what I'm showing.

It seems both types are needed as for instance someone who uses just Reason would want to see a nice detailed look at how to get the best out of that. But the other tutorials should be more concept based and not so much tied to a DAW.

Jesse,
I'm friends here in New York with the team that built and maintains the site :
http://www.rhythmism.com

I'd be happy to introduce you to the guy who does their website design and build or even just to their team-- there is a production area on that site that you may be able to collaberate with.

Let me know.

Little heads up on the new site.. The bulk of it is designed and programmed now. Just finishing transferring the pages from the existing one to the new one. Hope to have it live within a week or so and then can start working on adding new content and tutorials.
