A recent discussion in this forum got me to thinking about software/hardware setups. I'm exploring the idea of buying some hardware to compliment my software, but the integration of the two seems daunting at the least. All of the major software have made it so you don't need any hardware (short of your actual computer of course) to make your tunes. So I'm wondering how easy/difficult they've made it to integrate, for example, a reverb unit into the fold. Or a compressor, FX unit, etc.
For those of you who are doing this, what is your setup like? (which DAW, hardware, how easy/difficult, etc)
I'm using FL Studio. Anyone using this with hardware?
Thanks for the wisdom!

Glenn,
Hi, these days its actually become quite easy to do. In the past you had to manually assign a set of outputs and inputs, granted you had any free ins and outs, to send and receive the signal from the external unit.
I have no experience with FLstudio, but in cubase and live they have made the whole process easier by allowing integration of external gear via the "external instrument" or "external effect" option. This option takes care of the whole ins/outs process for you while adjusting the latency as well.
I mainly use Pro Tools and still have to do it the old way tho, it really isnt much of a hassle.
In general the ins and outs process wasnt and isnt an issue as much as having to adjust the latency of the signal.
Hope that helps.

Glenn,
I echo what Rami said. I know the big 3 DAWs all have external plugin types for that sort of thing, not sure about Fruity tho. Just make sure the hardware youre using is actually worth the effort otherwise it will just end up being a pain in the ass for nothing.
