Subwoofer?
#21
I don't know fellas, after running powered and passive monitors, i'd have to vote for a really nice passive set up with a sub (which i can switch on and off via my m904). I don't think you could run a sub full time in any set up and not eventually go mad.....but i do think there is a vast improvement with moving the sub speaker out of the same cabinet as the mids and tweets and enlarging it to dual 10's or 12's versus a 6 or 8 inch speaker sealed into the same cabinet as the mids and tweets.

Since we've switched to monitors, where do the Genelec monitors fit into the scene? Almost all of the studios I've been to out here have two pairs of monitors: Yamaha NS10's (evidently for show, as they never use them) and a pair of Genelec's. They sound great to me, but are out of my price range; especially with the import taxes here.

I've never really heard anyone mention this brand when speaking of monitors.

I think they are more popular here in Europe as they are made in Finland. I have seen them mentioned in some forums but mainly by guys from the UK.

the studio we were just recording in had Genlec set up with 5.1 and a nice sub. they were very decent.
they seem to be the standard around here.
