Tips for new dance music labels..

I was reading through that last night. The amount of labels they mentioned was a bit jaw dropping. Really makes one think about the plausibility of starting your own label.

After I first read the article, a question for Medway (or anyone else) popped into my head.....

The availability and prices of music making software opened the door for everyone and his grandma to start producing...which in turn opened the door for more labels to start.....which, as the article mentioned, brought about a lot of

average music and badly run labels

I know a lot of guys master their own tracks......those guys aside....for those who choose to have a professional master their tracks, would you say there's a third link in that chain: Average Music, Badly Run Labels, and Poorly Trained Mastering Engineers?

Wondering if you've encountered anyone posing as a professional, but who's basically just got a bunch of plugins with a basic knowledge on how to use them...and making cash for a 'mastering job'.

Would be a good follow-up article.....

That's a good point and something I'm aware of doing what I do.. I often get emails from people saying they have had other mastering jobs either from sites or friends that they aren't happy with at all. Of course I make sure they hear the difference when it's done with care

I know of a lot of it is economics, everyone's used to cheap or free software so they don't want to pay for this either. But if you're serious about your stuff obviously it pays to pay.
