focusrite liquid mix

Does anyone use this?

I'm always interested in better compression and eq, and having this piece with a dedicated hardware unit so I dont have to eq with the mouse sounds like a fantastic idea.

Does anyone have any experience with it? Is it the real deal?

Just ordered it for a friend. Will let you know what he thinks but I heard it's the real deal using the same convolution technology that is in the Liquid Channel.

I've heard conflicting reports on this. Convolution can do some cool things, the Qclone for instance does a pretty good job at getting the sound of my Daking EQ. For compression though, which is dynamic, it's not so good, (even though some of these systems are trying to get around that via multiple samples taken).

I really don't recommend any of the hardware/dsp solutions at this point, whats available native is doing the job for me (other than SCOPE for the synths which comes in handy).

As far as the mouse debate, for me it's not a huge issue, I don't spend much time making my settings anyways since I can pretty much hone in on what's needed right away. In fact I like the preciseness of the mouse/text entry at this point. The only time I miss using knobs is with synths, where you benefit from changing multiple parameters at once.

Had a very brief go at this at a friends house and the Liquid Mix seems to have some nice emulations of compressors and eq's, but I can't speak to applying them to a variety of source material, so bear that in mind.

Just a general commentary, this device may be good for those that want to add to their tools but I think that native processing nowadays would suffice. Maybe if you are after a particular emulation of a device it makes sense, but I'd go the native route first and compare.

As far as the interface debate, I feel that I'd rather have an Ableton Live controller than a box with knobs that controls parameters for compressors and eq's. I agree with Jesse on using the mouse, it's not an issue for me either.

Focusrite makes some nice stuff but I wasn't particularly impressed with their lower priced product range. The Saffire didn't really do it for me either.

I'd save my cash but it's up to you.

Btw. I call new gear lust 'the fever'. Beware of running a high temp and splashing out cash for what you really don't need. I've been guilty of it many many times... Cool
