what i miss most about tokyo

this is a short doc on the departing train melodies used in tokyo. its crazy the vivid memories and nostalgia these sounds trigger from my trip there last year.

regardless of whether you've been or not, this is a really interesting piece and worth the listen. its only a few minutes.

I was in Toyko once when I played at the Womb but never took the train. Interesting clip though thanks. Here in London at least we have the sweet voice of the recording of the woman that announces stops hehe

My dream is to visit tokyo.I mean this culture ,overcrowded city ,people ,has something magnetic.I never were there,but i read a lot,watched photos,videos,and a girl that i knew was modelling there ,my neighbour .And i heard so much things about it,i know someday i will have to visit this place

Just reading the description got the nostalgia going for me. I'm at work and can't listen, but will when I get home.

If I remember correctly, each station had their own unique 'ringtone' to let you know when the train was coming and going. Some used the same though. I can still remember the one from my girlfriend's local station! *L*


Something to add to this...

Now that I'm living in Taiwan, I've found a completely different kind of 'ringtone'. All the garbage trucks here have them. They don't do curbside pickups, so you have to go out to a collection point near your house/apartment at a certain time. They play a song so you can hear it coming. There's a few different songs. Some town have even used the trucks to try and teach people English. It's hilarious...watching a garbage truck stop, people running up to throw in the garbage, all the while a voice saying "How are you? I'm fine, thank you. And you?" "It is a dog." etc....
