SUPER discounted software: Have u tried?
Posted by: djglenn - 10-08-2009, 11:40 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

Not sure if I've posted something like this b4....sorry if I did.

Have you ever bought software from those super discounted software websites? I year or so back I considered it, but thought better of trying. Most them seem to sell about the same things at the same price. Titles are always older versions. For some things that might mean something, but for others, I don't think it would. For example, I've seen a number of websites selling Nuendo 3 for around $99. Now I'm sure there's some major differences between 3 and 4, but hell, for 99 bucks, who cares? (ok, I'd have to buy a dongle, but no major thing) It's download only and probably zero support and upgrades, but for what you get, I don't think that's a big issue. An example:

http://cheapsoftoem.com/shop/item/steinberg_nuendo_3_2/

These places 'seem' to be legit, but are they? I've been asking myself, if they're legit, then why not buy? I'm sure Nuendo 3 would last me 10 years no problem.

So....anyone ever buy?

  Latency Compensation... ableton
Posted by: Waylo - 10-06-2009, 02:34 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Hey peeps,
I believe we may have covered this before, but unfortunately after a session this weekend I'm still having some issues with latency compensation.

I'm using Ableton 8 and an Apogee Ensemble interface.

here's the scenario-- I'm trying to play a nice groove and using an external synth for the tone.

i've tried doing ableton's latency compensation tutorial, where you calculate the amount of difference from playing a sample out of your cpu through your audio interace and then back in... then using that value as your latency compensation number.

i ended up with something like 24 ms.

the trouble is, when i do that and record the bassline that sounded spot on when i was playing it (and playing back the midi)... after recording the audio the timing is even further off then before.

(for me) It's not as intuitive in ableton to shift the audio to the right spot as it is in cubase or logic.

I'd like to just get the settings right so that when i record midi and it sounds good-- then I record audio and it should sound the same... .but it doesn't

  Music production press,magazines etc
Posted by: przechuy - 10-05-2009, 04:01 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (9)

What kind of music prodution/realization press you read ?

Recently i thought it would be nice o buy something like this in store, and i bought polish

ESTRADA I STUDIO ONLINE

fantastic magazine ,though i think not available in english.

a lot of tests ,reviews ,news ,and included dvd with soft, tutorials and otehr usefull stuff.

I would say it is aimed into more proffesional users, with already good background in music production ,but it is worth every penny. For passionats . If it is available in english i will give you a sign.

I know most of people cant imagine how poland can be connected with electronic music, but i will add for example that psp vintage warmer is polish product, and whole psp audioware ,http://www.d16.pl/ is also polish group, maybe best recreations of some vintage instruments.

What kind of press you buy ? I think it is nice to share because english language magazines are usually available in whole europe

  Trying to Re-create this sound....
Posted by: djglenn - 10-04-2009, 01:24 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

I've been trying to recreate this, but so far I'm far from close. Any of you 'synth-jocks' have any advice on a starting point? I'm trying to get the main part of that sound (not the noise thrown over top the whole thing). I pretty much only use vanguard and Sylenth now. If you don't use those, then any basic info for any synth would be cool.

Thanks for any leads...

Just got an email from soundtoys. Nothing on the website yet, but it looks very very nice.

I'm excited about the saturator plugin.

Let me know if you want me to forward the email. I'm not sure how to attach it to this post.

New Profile section - check it out...
Posted by: admin - 09-28-2009, 06:55 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (9)

Ok tweaked what I had for the profile pages themselves with a few things that Glenn mentioned. Take a look and see if this is basically what you need:

http://www.medwaystudios.com/myprofile

Generally its some info about you and then the ability to upload both patches/session files (supports fxp, fxb, als, and zip but let me know what other extensions are needed).

And then you can also upload a song/clip, write a little description about it, give the genre (these will be predetermined in a list to aid in searching later), and what 'state' it's in. So for collab status like my example is set to you could see this on the main page I'm about to make.

There you could search for songs with collab status along with genre.

You will also be able to private message someone in order to initiate sharing of files if you dont want them directly on your profile..

Also there's a comment system for each profile so basically a 'wall' to post comments and chat publicly.. then you can spam each other and it can be just like MySpace Big Grin

So please have a look and see what you think so far.
