Couple of interesting plugins from Softube
#1
I've managed to stay away from looking at new plugins after last years research ended up with me buying URS and Soundtoys so figured I'd give my wallet a little break.

At a recent students session though somehow I got onto Softube's site and see their Tube Tech emulation is now available for Native:

A bit pricey but supposedly it's an excellent model.

Even more interesting to me is their upcoming Trident A eq:

The Daking pre amp/eq I use for analogue mastering sessions is a hardware copy of this same unit so will be interesting to see how it stacks up.

Supposedly they've modeled the saturation which is a key feature for me when sending mixes through.

Interesting you brought up the tubetech. My credit card raised my rates to 30% (I'm another casualty of the "hey, we're doing it for no particular reason" thing) and I thought I'd make a few last purchases before opting out of the agreement. This was on my list after seeing a review of it somewhere. I ended up not buying mainly due to price, but am still interested in it nonetheless.

On a sidenote, Medway have you tried using your Daking as a mic pre amp? How does it sound? I'm looking to buy a dedicated mic preamp for voice over only applications. I've heard nothing but good things about the daking. And if I could also use it for other things--as you do--then all the better!

I'll let you know what I think about it after I get some time to demo it. Will probably hold off for a bit while I finish up the Ableton course. Soon after that I start on an album for the Hooj guys so I can put it to better use then, although it might be handy in mastering applications as well, so we'll see.

Yes the Daking is a great pre amp, the eq is probably its strongest feature but the pre amp is also very good. I used to use it with a Studio Projects C1 mic and got very nice results from it.

Cool thanks. It's not cheap, so helps me rationalize the purchase. Smile

If you want something you can keep forever then this is a good purchase.

It's one of the few bits that survived when selling off a bunch of gear before I moved overseas.

The problem with the lower priced stuff is you're always wondering if something better would help, with a piece like the Daking you know you've got one of the best money can buy and its more a matter of taste rather than lacking any quality.

Great! Now if only I can get you over here to explain that to my wife! Wink

And a question. I read in your profile that you have the 52270. I read somewhere that daking changed the model number for whatever reason. (too hard to remember?) Which one are they making now is similar/the same as yours?

This one?: http://www.transaudiogroup.com/daking/mic-pre-eq.shtml

I hear that it's listed as the Mic Pre One, but that doesn't seem right: http://www.transaudiogroup.com/daking/mic-pre-one.shtml

The Blue Tubes channel plugin does a really good job for me at saturation and tube simulation. It's the best $15 I ever spent on a plugin.

The one I've got is the first one, although mine looks a bit different as hes updated it since, theres the additional low freq of 30hz for one (which I wish I had as sometimes the 50hz on mine is a bit too high).

I've not actually ever heard of or seen that Mic One, he must have taken the mic pre off the unit I've got and done it stand alone.

Have just seen their FET III comp, looks nice, I used to have the single channel one but sold it due to the release being too slow, even that ones limited to .5 sec which I'm not sure why they dont go a bit quicker.

Whats the price on the Mic One? I think total the one I've got was around $1800, $250 of that was just for the power supply though.
