Great article...this is definitely true in the music biz...more so in commercial music than electronic music though in my opinion. Commercial music has more "casual" music listeners who buy more on the basis of influence/hype, and less on a developed sense of personal taste for "quality". That happens to a degree in the electronic genre as well, but I think a lot less because the majority of people who love electronica seem to have a deep passion for it, or music in general...thus we make our choices more solely on the music itself, not the hype or starpower.
Although, Deadmau5 has really enjoyed the exposure this past year of beatport's charts. While most of his tracks deserved to be on there, there were a few that I knew made it because of his name.
