Not sure about 8, but in 7 you can just drag out copies of a midi or audio region with the mouse. You put the mouse in the top right corner and the icon changes to something that would indicate looping. You can leave these as a loop or turn them to "real copies" by selecting them all and hitting 'k' on the keyboard.

For me the control-d is still the quickest way and really surprised Logic can't do that since every other DAW has the feature.

Very true..
Any word on if 8 does?
It would also be nice to be able to move midi notes around with the arrow keys like in ableton

I've asked numerous people about this and they always just say drag the notes.. Dragging is fine for long passages, I use it in Live with the loop on to arrange. But if you've chopped a vocal and need 3 repeats of that part it's faster to just quickly tap ctrl-d 3 times

Logic does it but in a different way..after all most sequencers do the same thing in different ways.
you can just press option and drag the region to make a copy, its very easy and straight forward..if Cubase or Protools do it too in a different way doesn't mean Logic is lacking of that feature, just different approach.

Ya understand that but you can also drag and copy with Cubase and Live as well (not sure about Pro Tools). I'd rather have both options than be forced to do it one way which is slower for me in certain situations. The whole point of key commands is they are quicker than using the mouse being that they are a more direct form of control.

One thing that annoys me with live (correct me if i am missing something) is to switch to the pencil tool, if i wanted to create a midi note without playing it, is I have to go all the way to the top and click on the pencil. Also, the pencil is unable to draw a midi region.
Where as in Logic, i hold down the command key and my cursor changes to a pencil.

If you select an area on a MIDI track and press control-shift-m it will create a midi region from that area. When in the MIDI editor control-b toggles from pointer to pencil. What's annoying though in Live is when you draw in a note you have to toggle back to pointer to lengthen it, I wish they had a smart tool function that detected being near the end point of a note and automatically switched to a pointer to let you change the length.
