Master bus compression

I have been using my sony oxford dynamics (i.e. compressor) plugin on the master bus of my tracks, when someone i was talking to seemed to think I should be using a "dedicated stereo bus compressor". Now i thought the sony dynamics was a stereo compressor, but its not specifically a 'bus' compressor, whatever that means!

Since then i have demo-ed the waves api 2500 & the ssl4000 bus compressors and a-b'd them with my sony. I couldn't hear an amazingly obvious difference except for a small amount in the bass, and the api seemed to boost the high end a little.

So whats the go on 'stereo bus compressors'?

The Oxford most certainly is, theres presets in there to emulate an SSL. And in a direct a/b comparison with an Empirical Labs Fatso it actually came out on top for better stereo buss compression in that application (it was a blind test and more people than not picked the Oxford as being analog).

You might not have the SSL patch as it was something Paul Frindle put up separatly so let me find it and Ill pass it along for you.

thanks jesse, I do have one ssl emulation in there, but in your file there seems to be 2 more? I can't actually use it because i'm on mac and i think those are for pc :-(
