halo Memberz of tha Medway! i just hadda quick question i'm a pondering and wondered if i might ask tha advice of tha good citizens of medway city! umm basically, i am doing a remix right-now for a supposed big label, i am kinda doin tha mix with a friend, he'z got tha on-spec remix work i have done 99% of tha composition/prod/prog etc.. but hey.. tha label liked tha mix, they asked for quite a few changez which i have undertaken, they have asked still for couple more changez to tha trak, so far this has been lot'z of work but i am ok about doing it, they say these are tha final changez.. they have also asked for 2 of tha stemz.. from tha trak, their vokal which i have processed extensively (coz it sounded like ass) and my drum/FXtrak, i really dont think i should give these up until they pay for tha remix.. any thoughtz. ne one have ne professional wisdom or experience 2 offer! i dont want 2 upset neone, yet i dont want 2 give away stuff that'z not yet paid for! many thankz in advance!!!! Could be ok,hard to tell, never been in a situation where I was asked for stems like that. If it had to do with mastering I could see, but the vox and drumtrack/effect on it's own wouldn't serve that purpose (that's assuming there's more to the track than these). Generally you can feel people's intentions out over a few emails so perhaps that's either given you a good or bad impression so far.

Hey tx 4 chucking in there monsieur Medway,, i've been kinda lurking offtime here and gearslutz and rootz & Defected forumz! ! lol, umm yeah.. i didnt get this work directly as such.. it'z come thru a friend asking me 2 collaborate, i've just ended up doing 99% of everything, then a weekz worth of reqeusted changez from tha producer of tha original... it'z been a learning experience on all frontz so i'm ok with that.. i'tz a chance for my first bit of paid work and tha trax kinda kewl.. i will post it maybe once i know watz going on withit so ppl can havva listen..... and feedback... so i'd like 2 get a bit of an angle on this like u say but i'm gettin mailz forwarded to me generally saying...turn this up @ 5.43 & cut that out @ 2.50 etc!!! difficult situation i find myself in so i probably got myself 2 blame as i had an offer to put out sum stuff earlier in tha year which i wasnt sure about taking and didnt! u know! i'll get str8 and hopefully learn a bit from this! i'll say to my friend who correspondz with tha employer/producer so to speak that i can send tha 2 x stemz they've asked for and ask why they need them prior to payment.. they havent bought them yet iz my point... when they pay they can have all the stemz! sorry 4 tha essay! i'm a fast typer! tx 4 pitching in! peace & House, JOykrash!

Ok well if they've been giving specific mixing adjustments then it seems like they want the stems for that purpose although I'm still not clear on why they'd want just those in isolation. So I'd lean on the side that it's probably fine especially if it's a reputable label. Good luck.

I gotta be honest, owning a label, i'd never ask for stems with out being very frwd and upfront as to why. if i did, it would be to give to Meds to master for me as he already does.
Sounds really cheeky to me. like they want to use those for other possible rmx's.....?

yeah! u know.... it'z out of my handz 2bh.... IE i'm not handling this thing myself.. it'z thru a friend who got tha job.. tho i made tha trak.. u know.. i'm just trying 2 sort out a few bitz and get some autonomy 4 myself! but i agree with wat ur saying.. i asked tha question 2 my friend why they wanted them and they said they wanted my processed/engineered version of their vokal and my drumtrax coz they had 2 make a remix quickly for some reason and wanted 2 use them for said remix.. ! my thoughtz were u havent paid for anything yet.. 2bh.. but my friend said give them over.. so i did, why tha producer guy cant make his own drumz i dont know.... we'll see what happenz.... just soundz moody 2 me.. i mean he can hire me 2 program/engineer 4 him if he wantz!!! nehow.... we'll see!! tx 4 ur feedback Bitfiend and Medz.... i'll post on what happenz when it happenz!!
