Ive had mine for three years now its an older powermac laptop (G4 1.33 Mhz PPC Chip) Ive never had any problems with it, in terms of software or had it shut down during the middle of a session, granted I cant boot both windows and mac, and I cant use windows apps on it.
It also fell down two flights of stairs, step by step, and survived it without any scratches or internal problems, I cant however comment on the newer macs.
The only problem that I have with my mac is the battery but it seems that apple was having some issues with the batteries for a good 3 years in the past, that, as I understand, has been taken care of with their new line of laptops.

That's one thing I liked about my HP, it was built like a tank. Mac guys used to make fun of how thick it was but thier computers were always getting dented or broken easily. They 'looked' very nice but weren't that sturdy.

Basically you can sum it up as Macs are generally easier to operate as the OS is more streamlined but PCs have a much wider range of available software.
I would only consider a Mac if I had dual boot capability as there are too many programs for the PC that I like to use.
The problem with the debate is it's very polarized due to marketing which becomes very silly. In the process people end up exaggerating the differences between the two platforms.
Like anything it comes down to what you are most comfortable using. Some people find Macs easier, some like PCs. The software you plan to use affects your choice as well.
But don't let anyone tell you one system is better than the other, this goes for DAWs as well. At the end of the day you choose one or the other and get on with making some music.
