  a completely useless post....
Posted by: Bitfiend - 06-17-2008, 03:44 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

I have to say this forum is great! there is no belittling, ridiculing, talking down to. i joined gearslutz to read up on gear and ask a few questions and all it seems to be is a bunch of basement producers tearing into anyone who has a different opinion or a question they see as stupid. i shouldn't be so general, there are some REALLY big names over there and they do seem to be quiet nice and helpful as long as they don't get to deep into techno-babble.....
it's really nice to know not matter how sophomoric or noob of a question i post here, i am going to get some honest help and or advice.
inhale blue, exhale pink, ok i'm done venting.

  pro tools vs. cubase
Posted by: Bitfiend - 06-16-2008, 04:49 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

I'm not trying to start a debat about which is better and all that.
I'm just curious as my band is pushing me to run PT since it's the norm in most studios and i'd be on the same learning curve and know exactly what is going on when we go into a professional studio.
i've got the fw410 and profire 2626 by m-audio so i could run PT m-powered.
so would it be worth it? i mean we're only using cubase as a scratch pad to lay ideas down and do pre-production work with.
i know a few of you guys have and/or do work both, so gimme some thoughts....Big Grin
I was thinking if i do get PT, i'd still use cubase for my electronica stuff....maybe.....dunno.

markers in cubase and the inspector
Posted by: Bitfiend - 06-15-2008, 12:00 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (8)

Ok, so is it possible when you use markers for the names you give each one to be visible in the bar where it's marking the measures?
i know you can hit crtl+m and view them all...
AND is there a "hot key" to toggle the inspector on/off (visible/not visible)?

Are you guys regularly using one? does it increase workflow?
I've hooked up my UC-33e and when i need a break or have some time have been messing around with it. I've got a ways to go to get over the learning curve but i'm wondering if it really is gonna speed things up any?

  using basslane plug-in

so if you're using this free plug-in is there a general freq you should set it for on the a kick and on a bassline? is it totally subjective? also does it have a floating point or do you need to keep the meters out of the red?

  &$#% Apple
Posted by: sven hauck - 06-06-2008, 08:00 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (17)

This is a complaint. My PC workstation is inaccessible at the moment, so I started configuring my Mac Powerbook with Live and a bunch of plugins. What would have taken me 30 minutes on the PC took me almost 3 hours.

So let the complaining begin:

Why does OSX want to put files in places that I don't know about? Try tracking that down and it may take you a few hours. Sometimes I want to remove a plugin, so I need to manually remove the VST and the Standalone. Some stuff is in Applications, some in the VST folder, some in the Library...

Yes, I know that third parties make software that uninstalls as per the operation on the PC, but do Mac users really not care to know about what goes where? And why is this not a standard feature?

Why are there 3 instances of the VST plugin folder? That just gives people that write the installers too many options. I had some plugins go in one or the others, and found that to be a pain in the ass.

Why are these plugins crashing Live? Seemed to work ok on the PC.

Why is there no uniform way to install software? One installer says, "drag this folder into your applications" while the other just says "what hard disk you want this to be installed on (sucker)?" and then the guessing game begins. How about asking me for the folder?

Why is Delete and Backspace the same button? Ran out of keyboard space, did we? Hard to believe, as it is almost twice the size than my IBM Thinkpad.

Why was this laptop so expensive?

Oh, it has an Apple on it. And it lights up.

Battery 2 and Cubase 4.1 Video Posted
Posted by: admin - 06-03-2008, 06:09 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (16)

As reuqested:

http://www.medwaystudios.com/battery-cubase-tutorial.html

Let me know if there's anything else on this subject you wanted to see.

Also this vid didn't come out quite as sharp as the first one as I used a wider screen dimension which wasn't a perfect multiple of 800x600 so there's rounding distortion. Still looks good though. Next time I'll try a different aspect ratio and see if I can get it a bit sharper.

Also at the moment the audio from Cubase is just coming in through the microphone, will try recording it digitally and adding in later when editing.

btw the total length of this is about 15:00.
