Anyone use MPCs for writing or live shows? If not, what do you use to write drum parts?

How do you learn to synthesize the sounds you want?
Posted by: James Stichbury - 08-29-2007, 11:44 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Hi,
Firstly thanks for your answers on my previous question, its really appreciated - there is only so much reading & digging you can do until you get stuck with questions!
Another question.. (i have a lot - hope you don't mind Wink

How do you learn to synthesize the sounds you want?

Is it years of trial and error until you just know? Or is there a good book on which waveforms achieve which sounds that you could recommend?
For example right now i'm trying to make what i can only label as background "atmospheric/progressive" sounds - metal clanking type sounds.. hmm.. hard to explain! i'll add an mp3 so you get the idea..

thanks again

  Are hardware synths mandatory?
Posted by: James Stichbury - 08-29-2007, 01:33 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Hey guys,

Just discovered this forum and noticed discussion about which hardware synths to get. I really want to create some quality progressive house, but thought i could get away with software synths. It seems the more i learn, the more i realise i don't know, and don't have!

My question is do I really need a good hardware synth?
Correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't most new synths completely digital anyway? - which would imply that anything that goes on in the synth hardware would be able to be achieved in software just not as efficiently?

thanks in advance..
james

Does anyone know any vocalist, good with lyrics and vocals for techno? By that i mean electronica, not straight techno.
I know plenty for rock but they never work out for dance music.
