Well i'm gonna post it.
training on the use and settings of compression in every possible situation. A VST, audio file, kick drum, etc.
As you well know, Jesse, I am completely clueless when it comes to compression......

Im looking at investing in an Oberheim Xpander, for personal use, Ive only heard good things about this synth, and the specs seem to be of the wall, even when compared to some of todays synths. One voice chip isnt tuning correctly however I am sure I can find a replacment chip for it. That leaves it at 5 voices.
Any thoughts?
Previous or current owners, that might have any negative comments, or positive ones. Please feel free to share.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running dual, dual core AMD opterons with hyper-transporting w/4 gigs of Corsair RAM, 10000RPM Raptor HD, Tyan Motherboard, NVidia 256 card, & still not getting the performance I want or thought I'd get.
Not knowing a whole lot about computers and DAW's I just built what I thought would be insanely fast. It's not as fast as I'd like it to be.
I still peg my CPU at 35-40 tracks with just an EQ(Waves) and Compression(Waves) on each track and the L2 and EQ(Waves) on the Master and running (usually) 1 FX track with Waves Rverb and sometimes a Group for sidechaining kick and bassline. That's why I bounce everything to audio as I write.
I still don't know enough to know if there's tricks I'm missing or if I'm just wanting to do the impossible.
I've done all the tweaks on musicxp.net and tweakheadz.com and they helped some but still no where near where I'd think a system with the components I have should be.
Thoughts, comments?

I know Jesse hates the PC vs. Mac discussion, but maybe if we keep it to what everyone uses and the reasons why, and not why one is superior to the other.
I have a Dual Core PC desktop with 3 Scope boards that is the center of the studio, connecting to all the rest of the gear. Have a Mac laptop as well for mobile production and live gigs. Running Cubase 4 on both.

Anyone have any cool tips or methodologies for creating transitions from one part of the track to the next? This is a pretty open ended question, but understanding that it is a crucial part of any track to bring the listener from one section to the next, can anyone post on what works well for you? Thanks.

I thought it might be a good idea to start this thread as I've seen similar ones on various forums that I'm a part of...
Of course we all make upgrades and changes to our studios, and sometimes it's nice to not have to deal with Ebay-
I have a few things that I'm not using as much these days, as well as some parts for you fellow Mac users... (recently my Powermac G5's liquid cooling system ruptured and fried my CPU, processors, and powersupply) So I have available 3 GB ram, and 2 UAD-1 cards. After a weekend with Jesse last year, I was sold on the UAD plugins...the sound quality is amazing to say the least. So plan to sell these 2 and migrate to the ones that are compatible with Intel Macs.
Ill list additional items if it's ok with the rest of the bunch, and of course the boss...
