Favorite Studio Monitors... anyone???
#1
Hey guys, any favorite studio monitors?
I'm using two different sets for reference.
I have a pair of Dynaudio's BM5A and a pair of the new Mackie's HR824MK2.

KRK V8's. They have less bottom end than the Mackie's, but are nice and flat. They can take a beating too, with that Kevlar woofer.

I'm actually using some lower budget monitors since I'd heard great things about them from a very reputable producer... Behringer Truth B2031A's... They're actually great sounding, and clearly they've copied the Mackie's. After A/B'ing to the Mackies, I noticed mine were just a touch colored, which of course we don't want necessarily-although they're great for writing... Took a little practice to adjust to the coloration.
Now that I'm looking to upgrade-I'm torn between the Mackies, and the JBL LSR 4328P's... Ive heard loads of great feedback about the JBL's, from the overall sound quality, to the feature of having a microphone/software system that will adjust the monitors to the acoustics of your room...

Has anyone had the chance to play through these yet? I'd be interested in any thoughts or knowledge on them... More than likely I'll get the JBL's.

I'm using Mackies HR824's for the past 5 years now.. I love them but haven't heard the Genelecs yet. So though i love mine and i never get ear fatigue I would be curious to hear others out there. I also have a pair of KRK's which i think suck, and have used a pair of Studio 1's to monitor with but those are def not for writing as they will burn your ears into shreds...

Hey Carlos... I have an issue of Future Music magazine which did a review on several monitors in the different price ranges... According to several mixing/mastering engineers, the Genelecs tested superior to the Mackies...
Unfortunately, the JBL's I'm seriously considering weren't included in the review, since they weren't released at that time. (same price range as the Mackies, and Genelecs)
A few of our peers are raving about them though...that room acoustic analyzer sounds very appealing...

Mackie 824s here as well. I used some Genelecs recently, sounded good but I'm very used to the Mackies. Couldn't imagine switching anytime soon.

Yamaha Hs-80 , first pair of monitors so cant really compare, but i think they sound great and they keep getting excellent reviews, allthough i heard someone saying something about the sound being very 3d Wink

Hehe was just going to say I had heard some over the weekend ;-)

I did compare my mackies when I got home as I noticed you had a bit more bass response with the yammy's when sitting right in front of them.

Ended up switching the mackies from the halfway position based of the 'acoustic space' compensation (which reduces from 100hz down by 2db) back to normal, so no cut. Added a noticable increase in low end. Now just to see how the room reacts to this and how controlled it is.

Then again I realized Les Dijinns just has nice focused bass Smile As that track is sounding similar in the low end as in yours.
