  LFO HZ to BPM
Posted by: djglenn - 05-24-2009, 10:18 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Most of you probably have something like this, but for those who don't, it will save you a lot of trial and error time trying to figure out the correct LFO speed to sync it to your bpm. (which I've been stupidly doing for oh so long....)

  Persian Music Appreciation DVD
Posted by: djglenn - 05-24-2009, 08:14 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Just got this in my inbox and thought I'd share. Seeing how we borrow (intentionally or not) a lot of rhythms from the Persians, maybe a better understanding of them could be helpful to some. This looks pretty interesting and possibly worth the $40 price tag.

  Free Impulses from Acousticas
Posted by: admin - 05-23-2009, 12:31 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Just got this in the mail the other day so figured I'd pass it along:

Free Bricasti M7 Impulse Response Library

Dear Acousticas users,

it seems, yet again, that we managed to mess up a newsletter.
Many of you have already notified us of the fact that some of you received an empty email.
Therefor, we resend this email so that the many of you who could not read the letter can obtain the download link.

Here is the newsletter in plain text.

We had asked Bricasti whether they would allow us to sample
their M7 after several users asked us if we were planning to capture it.
The Bricasti team would not grant us permission to release a commercial
IR version of their M7 hardware. And we respected that and did not release it.

However, one user has drawn to our attention that the Bricasti team have been
publicly stating that, as long as the IRs of their M7 are free or donation ware
they do not mind. The forum in question was Gearslutz.

Prior to getting a “no” from Bricasti, we had already sampled all the 121
factory presets of the M7 hardware.

So, since Bricasti has seen fit to publicly allow non-commercial IR versions
of the M7 we thought that we’d share what we have captured rather than having the IRs
collect dust on the hard drive.

Library Description

The complete set of hardware factory presets have been captured.
The impulses are in stereo interleaved WAV format. 24 Bit / 48 Khz.

A total of 121 Stereo IRs divided into the following 6 categories

01 Halls
02 Spaces
03 Ambience
04 Chambers
05 Rooms
06 Plates

You may download and share the IRs with anyone you please. It is totally free.

  Reaper 3 officially released
Posted by: przechuy - 05-23-2009, 11:14 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (21)

Past few weeks i was downloading and using Beta versions that were leading a transformation from reaper 2.5x (last stable/official versions of reaper, before v.3)

People were moaning (and it was quite justified ) on poor midi options in reaper 2,and now imo it is at least as good as in most expensive DAWs.

Quote:All-New MIDI
Edit multiple MIDI items or tracks together in a single editor. Customize how the MIDI editor shows you looped items, tempo changes, even synchronize the editor contents with the arrange view so everything stays lined up with the project as you move windows around. Edit MIDI inline in the arrange view. Add MIDI track controls to any track, in front of sends, or anywhere else. Explode MIDI items by channel or pitch. Improved MIDI import and export, hardware MIDI timing calibration, full sysex support, and tons of other improvements.

Someone might ask why i inform people so much about reaper, well,it is in our (producers) interest to popularize new great software with bargain price, because when it becomes popular, onther DAW's creators also MUST think twice on their pricing if want to keep position on market.

And i use reaper after i was using FL studio,Cubase 3 ,and Ableton and for me Repaer beats them all.

Maybe ableton is not suitable in this comparison as it has other great options which make ableton quite uncomparable.

Quote:$225: full commercial license
$60: discounted license

as far as i remember from forumif reaper is not earning for you 20 grands you can use discounted license

Quote:No Intrusive Copy Protection
We believe that technological enforcement of copy protection is not in the best interest of our customers.

Repaer has NO protection systems,no freakin USB dongles etc etc. If your trial period is over it in startup just pops up a screen with info that you should purchase license and it dissapears in few seconds.

Quote:Purchasing a license now includes upgrades through REAPER 4.99.

Yep,reaper policy makes you sure that you wont regret that you bought it and next week new version is released /upgrade and you have toi pay again.

From my experience ,i posted in bugs forum that reaper was making problems with one plugin, some users repeated it,and 5 days later was update fixing it .They have forum where people post and developers of this soft read it and immediatelly try to apply changes in updates.

Quote:I suspect some would be more convinced of its excellence if Cockos significantly raised the licence cost, but those in the know (and I consider myself one of that number) simply regard it as a bargain."

So,i encourage everyone to visit it and download from site.

You will have totally functional DAW with no limitations .You should purchase license later, but noone will force You to it with limitations, which do not exist in reaper.
So noone can loose anything on it .

  Largo

Waldorf seems to be heading in the right direction with this one, anxiously awaiting its release.

http://www.waldorfmusic.de/en/products/largo

Had the chance to play with a Waldorf Micro Q (which is essentially softsynth in a hardware casing) some time ago, and was extremely impressed with its sound. Tho not as many routing/modulation capabilities as the Virus series from access, the Micro Q definitely held its ground.

  Fairchild 670 VST's
Posted by: przechuy - 05-22-2009, 01:34 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

Hi lads.

I am searching for a good emu of fairchild 670

Iknow about UAD but i do not have UAD soundcard etc so useless for me unluckily.

I know also about the one from T-racks in version 3 of tracks.

Also,i heard about Waves JJP but i am not a fan of Waves.(though maybe i should?)

Anyone has any recommendations, something i could miss etc?

I heard the one from t-racks3 and it was great ,but would like to learn if there are any otehr options possible.

Tracks amazed me,but overall i seach for good vst because i heard tracks threted with this fairchild and i loved how it sounded....

So most accurate emulation would be perfect ,maybe we even have here some lucky bastards that could use hardware versions ?

  Live consolidation
Posted by: Rambunkcious - 05-21-2009, 03:00 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

Just encountered a strange issue, with everything at default (faders, pans etc) inside live 8, brand new session actually.

When editing program material in complex pro warp mode (controls also at default) and then consolidating the the two audio regions, the consolidate clip has a calibrated gain of 4.31 db instead of the default 0db.

However, when deactivating warp mode inside the unconsolidated regions and then consolidating, the newly consolidated clip's gain defaults to 0db upon completion of the process.

Any ideas? is it supposed to be doing that?
I intially though it was just a calibration issue , however ruled that out, as the new region is definitely louder then original file

and other example
http://www62.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=new+york with phrase used "new york"
