Anybody else having problems loading up the page with Jesse's mixes on?

Just getting a white page Doesn't seem to be loading up properly

Based upon another thread I decided to post 3 audio files treated by an API 2500 compressor. I mixed them up so that no one will know which is which by order and thought it would be cool to have people guess which are the treated ones.

I tried to normalize all three at -1.2 dB. The three loops that were randomized consist of:

X - treated with the API with a -3 threshold and the tone setting on loud
Y - treated with the API with a -6 threshold and the tone setting on normal
Z - not treated by any compression

Incidentally, the tone setting of the API is part of the thrust circuit, which is only found on the 2500.

It will be interesting to see who gets all 3 right.

Remember in 7 how if you click on a midi region and hit 'x' on the keyboard it would bring up a hidden window where you could adjust the swing quantize by individual percentage, and you could quantize velocity and note length, as well as a few other options..

How do I get this window in 8?

I was going to hold this question off till I had a little extra cash, but since outboard gear just came up in another post, guess I'll ask now.

True analog synths. I've been contemplating getting one for a while now. I've been looking at the Oberheim Matrix 6R as a vintage solution (ok, has digital control, so not exactly 100% analog) and the Dave Smith Mopho, as a modern solution. Main point: Both are quite affordable. One thing though, I know little about synths. Are there any better options out there? Is it even worth buying into? As many plugins you see out there that claim "just as good as analog" or some such thing, and with all the tools to make your mixes sound more analog, I figure getting an actual analog synth would be a good move.

What do you think?

Hi not sure if this has been asked here, but i always seem to get very grounded answers from medway so here goes...

Talking to friends they tell me you get a lot more stereo width and space in your mix if you mix out of the box. They are using a yamaha digital mixer. Now in my mind, that shouldn't be any different cos its still digital! But they also used to use an analog mixer, but found the digital one better.

To be honest if i got an digital OR analog mixer, i don't think i would use the eq anyway, just the faders for mixing as would have already eq'd in the box. I noticed you can also get a summing box to do just that - sum all the channels in analog without any eq/level or anything, just pure summing. Then i noticed a summing box is almost as $$ as a whole mixer!

So whats the deal with using an external mixer?

Stereo enhancers,does anyone of you use them?

I noticed not once not twice some tracks were sound,specially percussive like hhats etc where spreading great in a mix.And i bet it wasnt only reverb,or reverb at all ,or panning,though it is also a tool.

I recently tried for first time some stereo enhancing stuff on hihats track ,and it was not bad,though i am not master in it yet.

Where do you use mainly stereo enhancers?maybe for some spacious synths that do not have to be so much "in your face" ?maybe on drums,mild not heavy pads ?

Lets talk about usage of those smart little plugins,because i tihnk it might be grat tool to fill some space in mix ,with,in my case,hats sounds,because i love them.


Personally,i think,and thats mainly why i started to learn maybe some with those plugins,it can be a great way to give this "sparkle" to track,spread it gently.Bit of EQ,mild,not heavy sounding hihats and stereo enhancing on track with them.


It surely cant be overused,as it makes sound unlistenable.

I guess short decay, short release,fast attack set in synth + reverb .
But any details ?Ideas ?

Sometimes i managed to get somewhere near using arpegiattor function and putting really short notes in piano roll.

But this sound is perfect.With reverb it fills enough space to make it groovy and danceable just with damn kick sound.

Always write in minor keys?

Pick a key signature first and then try and write a song in it?

Use interesting key signatures? "Today I'm going to write a song in Eb phrygian."

Push random notes until it sounds good?

Yeah,i know that it looks like i am posting here and starting topics as "hottest user" which might look like a typical "forum attention whore" but it is rather caused by a fact that it is a first time when i found such professional forum with great advices.

I know it would have to cover huge area and take a lot of time to create,but it would be great.

About waveforms ,creating juicy synth sounds,bass sounds etc. Would be great.

I learned on my own quite much ,but all i do is i do it with my "nose".Learned on trial and error.But it would be great to know more,to be able to create exactly the sound that i have in mind etc .I think a lot of users have this issue
