Just a quick question about the order of processing for a typical deep sub bass sidchained to the kick...
best to put the compressor with the side chain first and then a second compressor after to even things out with a couple db of non side chained compression
or would you do regular compression first and then compress with your side chained compressor
opinions?

Hmmm...
I would say compress before the sidechain:
If you put the compressor AFTER the sidechain then you would even out the sound meaning: the sidechaining effect would be lost a little as the second compressor would bring up the level of the ducking part of the sound.
Then again it all depends on settings and what you are going for.. i find that dynamic processing is more of a "feeling" (peace sign) as opposed to hard rules.
Not 100% on this one so come on people...

sometimes i like to sidechain first,then send signal from kick and bass to another compressor to gel it and sometimes i do it totally diffrent way,i had also this problem,just find most comfortable way for you that provides sound that satisfies your vision
as they say in all tutorials -if it sounds good-it sounds good ,follow only this and think less how you done it and what was the order of processing etc .
medway also a lot of times suggested playing with processing in order to make extraordinary sound ,something new etc etc

I would generally compress first to even out the sound and then use the sidechain to give the pumping effect. Later on though I might compress the bass and kick together to gel them.
I usually take care of peaks first and then smooth out on a second process. Idea is to get rid of the major bad stuff first, then keep polishing. Kinda like sandpaper you use the rough first to get rid of the major spots and then switch to lighter to buff it out.
