  A little help please
Posted by: Bitfiend - 09-11-2008, 05:24 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (11)

ok fellow MedHeads, I need help with 2 things.
First, creating the stutter, trailing effect on the clip titled "fading vocal clip". In the clip it stutters (for lack of a better term) a bit then fades out. Has a nice little pattern to the stutter as well. I've been trying to create something similar to no avail. I've been messing with the Double Delay combined with the Chopper in C4. I've also tried it with the Glitch and so far neither has given good results. Any suggestions, advise, direction, etc. will be more than greatly appreciated as I want to add this to a vocal in an rmx I’m working on and I need to turn it in.
Ok on to the second thing. In the attached file "bassline clip" said bassline has a great swing to it and the 2nd series of notes in the bassline come across as muted. Like when a bass player doesn't fully fret the strings while playing the notes type of thing. In the attempt t re-create a similar swing and sound - in C4 I’ve set the quantize to 64-triplet, made each note in the midi editor 3 cells in length, the start of each note in midi editor is set to the first line behind (to the right) of the beat, so "E" in the count 1-E-&, 2-E-&, etc. the 2nd series of notes I’ve turned the velocity down to 50 and shorted the notes to only 2 cells but still am not getting that kinda muted sound.
Again any help would be appreciated!

  Samples

had the chance to work with a real TR 808 recently and took some time to sample the different sounds and their variations, they have all been edited right to the transient so they are set to go.

Theres also a TR 505 set also from the real unit.

Both sets are raw, with no sonic manipulation at all.

Enjoy

How do I make this sound...

This might sound like a naff question but...
the main sound from Mason- Exceeder and BodyRox- Yeah Yeah which is also in a huge number of other dance tracks- How do I make it? Is it a plug-in, a synth or are producers programming it themselves?
Cheers for any help,
SpockD

  phase/correlation/cancellation/panning/mono etc
Posted by: pk1 - 08-21-2008, 03:07 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (13)

Ive started paying more attention to all this a bit more so ive got a few Qs if you please Smile

I now have all my kick/bass/drums/perc in mono, apart from a few effects etc. and pads /arpeg etc in stereo.

Ive been running each channel through ozone 3 and looking at the correlation & phase meters. Ozone 3 also has the options of mono, switch L/R, invert L, invert R.

Now if the ozone meters show phase cancellation (i think) going on, does that mean that when you convert it to mono parts of the sound will cancel each other out & so not be heard? so if i click the mono button in ozone, as long as im still happy with the sound then its ok right? even if there is some cancellation going on.

What should i expect when clicking the switch L/R, invert L, invert R buttons?
and what should i watch out for there?

ive been using the Waves imager to widen the pads out on a track, but as soon as i do so the ozone3 meters show lots of cancellation. what would be a better way to widen the pad sound? can the asymmetry & rotation help on the imager, or should i be going back to the sound source, or using a doubler or something? Is the idea to have both left & right sides sounding a little different so that they dont cancel each other out?

Finally lol Smile is this only relevant if a track was gonna be put onto vinyl and hence made into mono, or is it important all the time?

Cheers guys,

Paul

  Saving your Monitors
Posted by: djglenn - 08-20-2008, 01:59 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (13)

So I was working on a project when suddenly a plugin went haywire. It suddenly BLASTED this horrible sound at an extreme volume. I'm shocked it didn't damage my monitors (or so I think). Luckily I was quick enough to turn down the master volume on my mixer.

So it got me to thinking. Since this does happen occasionally, I'm wondering if there's some hardware I can buy to put between my mixer and monitors (or somewhere in the chain) to prevent such a thing from destroying them? I'm only using a dj mixer, and am planning to upgrade to a real one, so was thinking that maybe a studio mixer would have this sort of function built in. If so, what's the feature called? If not, then what should I buy?

Thanks! Smile

Sorry about all the spam recently, looks like human assisted ones were getting through. Have added a new measure in order to prevent it.
