As mentioned before I am currently working on redoing the entire site to bring it up to date function wise and allow a lot more new content to be easily published. While I was on Beatportal not too long ago checking out one of their tutorials someone mentioned in a comment on how they wished there was a community site for production matters.
Soundcloud sorta filled this role with the commenting of waveforms but to me it's still more suited to promoing tracks more than dicussing production due to it missing some features that would facilitate that.
So as I sort out the details of the new MedwayStudios I thought I'd get some feedback on the demand for this sort of thing. Although I'm sure we all get a bit sick of having accounts in social media sites everywhere I do think that a simple but effective profile site for production would be useful.
My idea so far would be the basics, of course your avatar, a little info about yourself etc.. Private messaging and the ability to have 'friend' accounts linked to yours. Beyond that here are a few more features and how they could be used for the purpose of sharing ideas about producing:
# Audio player - essential and although it probably wouldnt have the waveform and commenting that SoundCloud does I still feel giving track times works fine for me and these could be displayed. The question is whether or not some of these tracks would need to be private or would you mind the whole world seeing what you've got going on (for instance with tracks in rough form)
# Comments - the ability ti post similar to the 'wall' or comments in Myspace.
# A feature I think would be really handy would be to list the gear and plugs you are using along with tips for each one as well as gripes you have. I think a lot of time we miss cool little features and shortcuts of programs we've used even for a while and this would be a great way to share those little things that make the production process happen faster. If there's something bugging you about a program or pluging you could list that as well and eventually someone might come around to shed light on it.
A lot of this we do in the forum but I think it's better to have a central repository of all this infomation.
# A list of current releases and links to purchase tracks.
# Some type of shoutbox or realtime comment system for sharing more spur of the moment discoveries, this could be linked to a Twitter account as well.
# Email forwarding of any of the above info as it's published to keep you up to date with what's going on without having to log in each time.
# Ability to upload files to share patches and sounds with ratings. Also share links to other tutorials or cool things you've found. A lot of sites have link directories but a user made one would be even better and more diverse.
These are just some things I've thought of today I'm sure a few more will come. The general idea is to put all our collective info in one place to form a network that can help everyone along their journey of producing a little easier.

Hey everyone,
Just a quick post about my recent dilemma regarding a purchase. I am buying some cans for my impending trip to Iraq. I was trying very hard to stuff some decent monitors in my seabag, but I have decided to buy some good mid-range headphones to mix on instead of monitors. I have narrowed my purchase down to either:
Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro
AKG K 701
It's a difficult choice and I can't find a store that might have them in stock. There aren't too many store selections here in Hawaii. Does anyone have any experience with either of these? After countless hours of reasearch, I think that the Beyerdynamics are more comfortable and have a bit more bass. I am sure that someone is going to argue the bass statement, but what I mean is that I like to mix a bit bass heavy so that it transposes lighter on other systems. Many people have stated that the AKG's are the best choice, for some reason I am leaning towards the BeyerD's. Anyone have any input?
Andre

| illogical Latency with Logic Pro |

Thought i'd share a quick tip i picked up on FM for Logic users.
Tom Foley
When Recording playback result is late (a problem i had until now)
This problem has been reported by other users. The first thing you should try is update your copy of Logic Pro to the most recent version. The next thing to try is to delete Logic's preference file. It seems that under some conditions this essential settings file can get abit fouled. You can find it in your user folder at Library/Preferences/com.apple.logic.pro.plist.
Before you delete this file you might want to take a quick spin around the various Logic preference screens to take note of any special settings you have. You will need to manually restore these after you delete the preference file. Take screen grabs of each preference screen so you can refer back to them later. I would also suggest you copy the preference file to your desktop/folder before deleting it. That way you can just copy it back if this does not fix your problem.

How do some of you guys/gals get that 'sucking sound' in your tracks? For instance, when you're building your track up to a high point, and right before it gets to the next part (say, when a vocal comes in, or main melody) the whole track just gets 'sucked' into a vacuum milliseconds before the next part comes in....then comes back in immediately at the beginning of the next part. (prob too much explanation, I'm sure you know what I mean)
Thanks

Here is the news that digital DJs have been waiting for since the dawn of the digital music era: Thomson, one of the original developers behind mp3 technology, today announced a new member to their mp3 family that offers ultimate audio quality thanks to its lossless compression.
The new mp3HD encoder, believe it or not, offers the creation of mp3HD files out of stereo material in wav form at 16-bit precision and 44.1Khz.
What does that all mean? The days of people complaining about mp3s sounding worse than CDs or vinyl are over.
âOver the past years, most of the music download services have adopted mp3 as their format of choice. By introducing this new mp3HD format, Thomson enables users and content providers to enjoy ultimate audio quality while preserving the convenience of the mp3 format,â said Rocky Caldwell, General Manager of mp3 and Audio Licensing for Thomson.
The new mp3HD format allows mathematically lossless compression of audio material while preserving backward compatibility to the mp3 standard.
The special files are mp3-compliant files that include additional side information, which, together with the mp3 portion of the file, can be decoded by an mp3HD-capable decoder. Standard mp3 players can simply play the mp3 portion of the file. As such, mp3HD files are larger in files size than mp3s.
At this point itâs impossible to tell how the electronic industry will react to the availability of the new mp3HD technology, but it will require all the digital format dependent businesses to adopt the new files before it come become standard.
We here at Beatport have been investigating mp3HD technology since the beta period and have been evaluating whether it would be possible to sell mp3HDs in the future. Lossless quality files have of course been available on Beatport for years as wavs.
